You’re Better Safe than Sorry

Should have. Would have. Could have.

“Hindsight is 20/20.” “Monday morning quarterbacks.” “Those who don’t learn from history are destined to repeat it.”

Our culture has made it a common practice to remind us that it’s all too simple to look back on events and say, “It should have been done differently.”

Well, that’s fine and good when it comes to a whole host of topics, like what you wore to a party or ordered for dinner.

When it comes to the health and safety of your family, though, I don’t want you saying, “Well, we should have done something different.”

It’s tempting to go the DIY route, or to use unlicensed labor to save on costs. Go ahead – paint your own walls! Even try your hand at a tile floor if you’re feeling really adventurous. There are some things, though, that should always be left in the hands of professionals.

We’ve been working in houses and have opened up walls or ceilings and have seen the most extreme electrical fire hazards one can imagine. Something as simple as installing a lighting fixture can lead to very serious dangers if done improperly.

This time of year, people should take a few extra moments and make sure that their lint traps – not just the one in the dryer but the one leading to the open air – are entirely clear. Those often cause fires, as do improper installation and maintenance of water heaters.

The real, “bigger” solution is to hire a credible, licensed and respected contractor in the first place so that you can rest easy knowing that every safety measure available has been incorporated into the design of your space. We don’t cut corners – ever. Every job is completed to the level of safety and quality that we demand in our own homes, and that’s how it should be! Oh – and if you need a small repair, call us – we’ll refer you to a reputable pro who can help. “Better safe than sorry!”
